The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations 2006 (the WEEE Regulations) came into effect in the United Kingdom on 1st July 2007. These Regulations are designed to prevent and reduce the amount of waste electrical and electronic equipment that is sent to landfill, by promoting its reuse, recycling and recovery. The separate collection of WEEE saves energy and resources and avoids hazardous materials from going to landfill.

The Waste Batteries and Accumulators Regulations 2009 sets out rules for collecting, treating and recycling all types of batteries in the UK and specific requirements for Distributors came into force on 1st February 2010.

Electrical and electronic equipment is any product that relies on electricity or batteries to perform its primary function. All products covered by these Regulations are identified by the crossed out wheelie bin symbol either on the product / battery itself or its packaging, so you can identify and dispose of it separately when it reaches the end of its life.

If you have electrical / electronic products that have reached the end of their life you can dispose of them free of charge at Designated Collection Facilities.
